What to Expect From Your Pre-Wedding Shoot with Thorn Valley Studios

Capturing incredible, effortless wedding photos is not about knowing how to pose like a supermodel. It is about feeling completely comfortable in your own skin.

At Thorn Valley Studios, we have shifted away from calling these sessions engagement shoots. By the time we get involved, most couples are already well past the initial proposal stage, so calling it a pre wedding session just makes far more sense. More importantly, our shooting style is not about stiff, staged, or robotic posing. It is natural, free flowing, and real.

If we had a pound for every time a couple told us they "absolutely hate how they look in pictures", we would probably be writing this from a private island somewhere. It is the single most common worry couples have before stepping in front of the lens.

But here is the secret: feeling relaxed and confident is what actually creates stunning photos, and that is precisely why we hold these sessions.

Here is what you can expect from your pre wedding session and why it is one of the best things you can do before your big day:

Master Your Camera Confidence and Posture

Bride laughs beside a vintage caravan bar decorated with red hearts; staff serve drinks, with a chalkboard menu visible.

Standing in front of a professional camera can feel completely unnatural at first. The pre wedding session gives you a low pressure environment to shake off those jitters, adjust your posture, and realise that being yourself is more than enough. By the time your wedding day arrives, you will not give it a second thought when the camera is pointed your way.

Get Used to Me

Let us be honest: I am not everyone's cup of tea, and that is fine! A pre wedding shoot is a brilliant way for us to get to know each other, have a bit of a laugh, and find our rhythm. When you are comfortable and confident with the person behind the lens, it shows in every single frame.

Decide on Your Style and How Your Day Will Flow

This session is a dedicated opportunity to talk through your vision.

We will discuss what you want to get out of your wedding day, hone in on your preferred style, and figure out how you want the timeline of your day to flow.

It ensures we are both on the exact same page long before the wedding morning arrives.

Pick a Meaningful Location and Wear What Feels Like You

Smiling woman in a dark coat stands on a pebbly beach by waves, holding a folded umbrella; hazy seaside town behind.

Where possible, we love our couples to choose a location that holds genuine meaning for them.

Whether it is the spot where you had your first date, a favourite coastal walk, or your local pub, choosing a setting that is significant to you makes the whole experience feel personal and authentic.

When it comes to what to wear, keep it simple and comfortable. Wear clothes that feel naturally like you rather than dressing up in stiff outfits you would never normally wear. If you feel relaxed in what you are wearing, it translates directly into genuine, effortless photographs.

Keep Every Single Image

Every high resolution image from your pre wedding shoot is yours to keep and do with as you please.

Whether you want to print them for your save the dates, feature them in a guestbook, display them at the reception, or simply share them online, they are completely yours.

Every pre wedding session is fully included in your wedding booking, so there is no extra charge or hidden catch.

Please do not feel nervous or afraid of stepping in front of the camera, because our only goal is to help you feel completely at ease. Simply show up, be yourselves, and relax while we guide you through the entire experience.
