Why "A La Carte" is the Best Way to Buy Your Wedding Memories

When you’re hunting for a wedding photographer, you’ll see the word "package" thrown around a lot.

Black wedding photo albums on a wood table, open to bridal party photos; covers read Zoe & Matt Our Wedding Day.

Package A includes 8 hours and an album.

Package B includes 10 hours, two parent albums, and an engagement session.

It sounds convenient, right?

But at Thorn Valley Studios, we do things a little differently.

We don't bundle our prints or albums into standard wedding packages. Instead, we keep our coverage and your tangible heirlooms completely separate.

Here is why we chose this approach, and why it’s actually a massive win for you.

1. No Two Couples Are the Same (So Why Should Your Package Be?)

Every wedding is a unique story, and every couple has a different vision for how they want to preserve it.

  • Maybe you’re a digital-first couple who wants a massive canvas for your living room but doesn’t really care about a traditional book.

  • Maybe you want a stunning, leather-bound heirloom album to pass down to your kids, but your parents don't need mini-copies.

  • Or maybe you just want the digital gallery for now so you can breathe after paying for a wedding.

By keeping prints and albums separate, you get to build an experience that fits your life, not a cookie-cutter template we forced you into.

2. You Don’t Pay for Things You Don't Want

The biggest secret about wedding photography packages? You’re often paying for filler.

If a package includes an 8x10 print, two parent albums, and a calendar, but all you really wanted was a single, high-quality wedding album, you are technically wasting money on items that will likely sit in a drawer gathering dust.

We don't believe in making you buy things you didn't ask for just to get the things you actually want.

3. Post-Wedding Decisions Beat Pre-Wedding Stress

Planning a wedding involves making approximately ten thousand decisions. The last thing you need to worry about six months before your wedding is whether you'll want a 20-page or a 40-page album.

By separating the two, you can focus entirely on your wedding day timeline and coverage right now.

Once the cake has been eaten, the honeymoon is over, and you actually see your final gallery, then you can decide which photos deserve to be printed.

You’ll make much better choices when you aren't in the thick of wedding planning stress.

How We Break It Down
